DIRECTOR

CAITLIN SHETTERLY is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Winter Harbor Theatre Company based bi-coastally in Portland, Maine and Los Angeles, California.

In addition to her work with WHTC and a sometime actress, she moonlights as a freelance journalist and contributing producer to National Public Radio and Public Radio International. She can often be heard on Weekend Edition and This American Life. From 2004-2007 she wrote a bimonthly column, "Bramhall Square" about relationships and love for the Portland Phoenix and now writes a blog about her journey west and move from Maine to LA, her tumultuous first pregnancy and the birth of her son at caitdangowest.squarespace.com. Her book Fault Lines: Stories of Divorce was published by the Putnam Berkley Group in 2001.

As the Artistic Director of the Winter Harbor Theatre Company, she produces and directs works that attempt to tackle the important issues of our time. Her inaugural project with WHTC was Tony Kushner's Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Remain Unhappy. Since then, Caitlin designed and implemented the acting program at the Long Creek Youth Development Center (Southern Maine's juvenile jail), where she stages productions of Shakespeare adapted and performed by the youths. These productions have included Hamlet, Othello, "A Hip-Hop Romeo and Juliet" and "MCJC: Julius Caesar."

In 2004 she conceived the WHTC's "Letters" series of political short works with Letters to Ohio. In December of 2005, she continued the series with Letters to Katrina, which the Maine Sunday Telegram named one of the "10 Best Art Events in Maine in 2005." "Katrina" went on to open in NYC at the Culture Project's Humana Festival. Caitlin opened Letters to Baghdad in June 2006 with writers and performers from Los Angeles, New York City, DC and all over Maine. In June 2007 she created and produced Letters to the NRA with artists from all over the nation.

Caitlin graduated with Honors in American Literature from Brown University and lived, until 2003, in New York City where she worked as a producer, director, actress and writer. Caitlin has won numerous awards and grants not only for her theatre company but also for her writing. She just recently (2008) was awarded the prestigious Good Idea Grant by the Maine Arts Commission to write her first screenplay. Caitlin is a Native Daughter, born and raised in downeast Maine and now spends her time in Portland, Maine with her husband Daniel E. Davis, their son Marsden and salty dog Hopper.
